iOS 8.3, OS X 10.10.3 Rolling Out

iOS 8.3, OS X 10.10.3 Rolling Out

Apple released two new software updates for its mobile and desktop platforms: iOS 8.3 and OS X 10.10.3.

In February, Apple launched the beta versions of these software updates for developers, revealing diverse emojis. Now end users can enjoy the diversified smiley faces. The new emojis add a range of skin tones, new flags, and more. Apple added roughly 300 new emojis in the desktop and mobile updates. On mobile, users can change their emoji's skin tone by tapping and holding the icon. A menu will pop up, allowing users to choose from six color options ranging from bright yellow to dark brown. On OS X, users can diversify their emoji by holding the Control, Command, and Space keys to set a default skin tone. The standard smiley faces have not been diversified, but many of the cartoonish depictions of people, including Santa, are. Non-human cartoons like the popular poop emoji, animals, and food cannot be diversified. Some of the diverse emojis have experienced issues, appearing as alien face in a box rather than the intended emoji. The update also connects the iCloud Photo library on mobile devices to the Mac's new OS X Photos app and includes various bug fixes across the platforms.

While the arrival of diverse emojis is exciting, some users have complained that the new iOS update killed the iPhone's Touch ID feature. "I just updated to iOS 8.3 and it completely removed my ability to use Touch ID in the App Store on my iPhone 6," wrote one Reddit user. "It asks for my password for each and every purchase. Is anyone else seeing this? The option to use Touch ID in the App Store is on. I have already tried turning it off and on again to re-enter my password." This bug does not appear to affect all users though it has been reported on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the iPad Air 2. Apple has yet to provide a solution or comment on the matter at this time.
